Creating a niche is a key for any business to come through in its individual industry. Since husband-and-wife entrepreneurs Alan and Jill Mecca acquired The Personalized Doormats Company (www.personalizeddoormats.com) in 2007, they have crafted their personal niches to make a much-needed product serve its purpose and also stand up out as a conversation piece
When the Meccas bought the company, one of their first moves was introducing the “Write Your Own Mat” series, which allows consumers to express their tastes by the doormat they create. The selection of designs for this series is abundant and includes dog breeds, college sports, animals, camo mats (for hunting down and outdoors enthusiasts), leisure, sports, combatant, baby/child, religion and wedding categories
Earlier in 2009, the Meccas received a product sample that was intended for a logo commercial mat. The eminent quality mat made of agglutinative coco-like fabric is fabricated in Europe and had not been widely utilized in the United States. The Meccas thought the mat would be abstract for residential purposes because of its durability, so they trademarked the name DuraCoirâ„¢ and appended the DuraCoirâ„¢ Signature Series and the DuraCoirâ„¢ Inlay Elite Series to their product offerings
“Commercial mats are typically a higher quality because they are built for heavy foot traffic,” Alan Mecca said. “Many residential mats that are traded are made of coco, but coco mats shed, fade and ultimately devolve because they are a biological material. DuraCoirâ„¢ mats don’t shed or stain, and they can be utilized outdoors. Once we introduced them, they immediately went top sellers.”
The Meccas call the Inlay Elite Series the workhorse of residential mats. The personalization and border are inlayed so the mat will not fade and the personalised message will not have on out
The Signature Series mat offers the same polypropelene finish and solution dyed fabric as the Inlay, but features an added elegant touch. These mats are clustered instead of inlayed, which gives the artists more flexibilty with the finer lines, ensuing in a more graceful appearance
The Signature Series (with sizes 2by3, 3by5 and 3by6) starts at while the Inlay Elite Series (with sizes 2by3, 3by4 and 3by6) starts at
Though the DuraCoirâ„¢ mats have been popular for residential purposes, they are also appealing to businesses because of their aesthetically pleasing design options
“Most commercial mats have an industrial look, but the DuraCoirâ„¢ mats offer an alternative – a homier feel,” Jill Mecca said. “They give business owners a chance to evince themselves just like the residential mats do for homeowners.”
